Gemma and Simon’s wedding story…

Simon and Gemma, the proud owners of The Somerset Cheesecakery in Ilminster, reached out to me through a referral from another photographer who was unavailable for the year. I am honored that they chose me to capture their special day, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to start my 2023 wedding season. After our initial video call and arranging their engagement shoot, I suggested having it at Lyme Regis, as they both have a fondness for the coast.

Despite the unfavorable weather on the morning of the shoot, with heavy rain and hailstones, we powered through and even took shelter in a nearby coffee shop, where I kept in touch with Gemma.

Once Simon and Gemma arrived, we had a lovely conversation over coffee, you could clearly see these guys are a TEAM. Despite the windy conditions, we ventured out and had a great time capturing their love for each other.

I was taken by their energy and willingness to try anything, even climbing on precarious-looking rocks for the name of art. Luckily, the weather cleared up, and we ended up with a beautiful morning that resulted in some stunning photos. I am thrilled to have met this wonderful couple and can't wait to capture their wedding day.

Notes…..

Over our video consultaion we all agreed that the Crowcombe Court is absolutely stunning. They then asked me if there was anything I could advise him on regarding the venue. My response was to keep an eye on the weather, particularly in March when snow is a possibility. Little did we know, the Thursday before their wedding day, it snowed! Fortunately, the snow had passed, and by Saturday, the roads were pretty clear. It was a relief for me as I didn't want anything to get in the way of capturing Simon and his partner's special day. Despite the unexpected weather, their wedding was absolutely beautiful, and I am thrilled to have been a part of it.

The morning of the big day!

On Saturday, March 11, 2023, I arrived at Crowcombe Court at 9:30 AM. While the weather was less than ideal, being cold and wet, driving through the gates of Crowcombe Court gave the building a majestic air. It was like taking a step back 100 years, and this venue truly looks great in all weather! As I entered the bridal prep room, Gemma greeted me with a warm hug. She had her mother, daughter, and best friend/hair stylist on hand, but Gemma clearly had everything under control. I was impressed to learn that she even made her own cake, which you can see in the photo below. Simon arrived later in the day, accompanied by his ex-firearms squad. It was clear from the start that they had a strong brotherhood. Documenting Gemma and Simon's special day was an absolute pleasure, despite not being able to get outside after the ceremony for some classic shots due to the weather. What mattered most was having all of their family and friends in one room celebrating the love they have found in each other.

Speeches….

Simon's speech was truly memorable. It was delivered with impeccable timing and was filled with humor and wit. I was honored to have been mentioned in his speech, and I am truly humbled by his kind words.

Simon's two best men also gave great speeches, providing even more laughs and insight into Simon's character. And now, we all know that Simon no longer tucks his shirt into his pants!

First dance…

Simon and Gemma's first dance was completely unexpected! It was full of energy and perfectly captured their lively personalities, setting the tone for the rest of the night's celebrations. Simon even showed off his inner John Travolta, much to the delight of everyone.

I had the pleasure of taking some portraits of the newly married couple in the dark, back lit with the majistic building of Crowcombe Court. It is a challenge as a photographer to capyure this type of dynamic, but Simon and Gemma's willingness to let loose and have fun made the experience truly enjoyable. I hope that these photos will serve as a lasting reminder of their special day for years to come. Overall, Simon and Gemma's wedding was a unique and memorable celebration, and I wish them all the best in their future adventures …..
